Plank Width & Stability

Solid hardwood performs best within controlled plank widths to maintain long-term stability.

We offer Canadian solid hardwood up to 4 1/4” wide, which helps reduce movement caused by humidity and seasonal changes.

  • Narrower planks provide better stability
  • Less risk of cupping or warping
  • Ideal for consistent, long-term performance

For wider plank designs, engineered hardwood is typically the better option.

Popular Wood Species

Choosing the right species affects both durability and style:

  • Oak – Durable, classic, and widely used
  • Maple – Smooth grain with a clean, modern look
  • Hickory – Extremely strong with bold variation
  • Walnut – Rich, dark tones for a premium feel

Finishes & Styles

Solid hardwood is available in a range of finishes to match your space:

  • Matte finish for a modern, natural look
  • Gloss finish for a traditional shine
  • Wire-brushed textures to help hide wear

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly
  • Use a slightly damp (not wet) mop
  • Avoid excessive water exposure
  • Use felt pads under furniture

Top questions answered

In this section, you can address common questions efficiently.

When we say it lasts a lifetime, we really mean it! With proper care and love, a solid hardwood floor can easily last 50 to 100 years or even longer. Because it’s a single, thick piece of natural wood, it can step right through generations of family life, holiday gatherings, and daily footsteps while only gaining more character along the way.

It definitely can be! If you have furry family members, we usually recommend opting for a harder wood species (like Hickory or Oak) and choosing a matte or wire-brushed finish. Matte finishes are fantastic at camouflaging minor scratches, scuffs, and pet hair, keeping your floors looking gorgeous even in a busy, pet-loving home.

We strongly advise against it. Basements and bathrooms are high-moisture zones with fluctuating humidity and risk of dampness. Because solid wood is milled from a single piece of timber, constant exposure to moisture will cause it to cup, buckle, or warp over time. We want your investment to last, so we recommend luxury vinyl or engineered wood for those specific spaces instead.
